We are an established firm of solicitors based in Godalming who, due to internal movement, are looking to recruit a full time Legal Department Assistant to provide administrative and secretarial support to the residential property department. You will support one fee earner predominantly and work within a team of 4 other support secretaries. There will also be the expectation to provide support to a consultant solicitor in the absence of the other secretary.
Working the hours of 9 – 5.30 Monday to Friday, we can offer in return a salary between £20k and £28k plus excellent benefits including 20 days holiday, a pension scheme, life assurance and cash plan.

The Legal Department Assistant requires someone with previous experience working within the property department of a legal firm and the ability to audio type. Candidates with 6 months or more experience in residential property/ conveyancing are encouraged to apply. We will also consider applications from recent Law graduates seeking their first permanent Law position whereby they have had some exposure within a firm either during their studies or since graduating.
In summary this role is to provide the Conveyancers (or Property Solicitors/ Fee Earners) with support in the legal aspects of a property purchase and the responsibilities of the Legal Department Assistant:
- Providing support to 1 fee earner
- Audio and copy typing
- Diary management
- Preparation and submission of searches
- Updating case management systems and documentation production
- Liaising with clients such as buyers, sellers and estate agents
- Dealing with telephone calls and those visiting the office
The post will also require some general administration tasks such as preparation of meeting rooms before and after meetings, proving refreshments and preparing post for despatch.
Candidates from legal secretarial, residential property, conveyancing and law graduate backgrounds will be suitable. Graduates with limited office experience as well as experienced legal secretaries are encouraged to apply.
