It seems like five minutes ago I was writing about our 45-year anniversary. In fact, five years have passed since then. So we now approach another milestone, a full half-century – not bad for a recruitment agency!
To survive and thrive for 50 years in such a competitive industry is exceptional, and to provide some context, below are some events from 50 years ago;
- Apollo 8 first orbited the moon
- Boeing introduced the first Jumbo Jet
Our people are our best asset
Of course, it is our people that make the company what it is – we wouldn’t be here without them. I’m proud to say that on average, our managers stay with us for over 15 years and our consultants for over 5. I think this speaks volumes about us as an agency and an employer. I’m delighted to see that all of the longstanding staff that I mentioned in our 45-year article are still with us today.

With nearly 40,000 registered recruitment agencies, there’s plenty of choice for the customer. Of those, only 16% existed before 2008. It is estimated that 80% of new agencies fail in their first two years. So whilst other agencies come and others go, PS remains resilient and strong as it moves to that comfortable middle age period, with no signs yet of a mid-life crisis! We have tried and tested methods of working. Our team is strong and trustworthy, always putting our clients and candidates first. But that’s not to say we have become complacent. We are always looking at better ways to work. For example, our strategy of developing hubs, with branches grouped to provide a broad range of services to a wider geographic area, has proved a great success.
Consistency is important
Customers like the fact that they get a consistent team of experienced recruiters. These factors have helped us to weather the storms of last year and emerge resilient and ready for new challenges. So Happy Birthday to us, and let’s raise a glass to our staff, our customers and our candidates, all of whom have been so loyal to us.
