Economic trends…..an election is nearing
As the General Election draws near there is an increasing amount of articles on Employment. It’s either the best time to recruit or a nightmare finding good candidates. Like all political footballs it is hard to spot the truth.
Everyday one reads that only a fool would bet on which way the economy will go post-election. That said there are a number of factors now suggesting that it is not mad to be bullish, namely;
- Despite pressure interest rates look set to stay low for the duration of the next parliament
- Confidence levels are at their highest since 2008. It is speculators that persist in pricking bubbles.
- Whilst there may be some wealth taxes the days of taxing income and profits ‘to death’ seem to be over
So businesses and in particular SME’s have reason to be confident and importantly, reasons to invest. Manufacturing is the strongest recovery sector right now but there are strong demands for quality resources across the whole of commerce and industry. Using a football analogy, If you are not Southampton (celebrated for growing their own talent) then you need to buy quickly and buy wisely (I wont risk naming a team here!).
Whether you’re looking for a fresh start or to recruit within your business, we’d love to help.
Let us get straight to the latest news;

The Blairite focus gave opportunities to school leavers but has left Employers with a sea of young talent where qualifications, including degrees, are often seen as a confusing currency. Employers are asking us time and again to put forward candidates who have ‘it’ and not just the qualifications. The ‘it’ being;
- Work ethic
- Self confidence
- Self determination
- Communication skills
2015 is the first time for some while that forecasters are predicting wage inflation to match or exceed overall inflation
- Given that Employers/Employees have become settled into a period of austerity it is anticipated that expectations of staff are more likely to be realised by moving jobs rather than waiting for existing employers to ‘catch up’
- The results of this are potentially de-stabilising and so it’s important that recruitment agencies behave responsibly. Be aware of pushy agencies which may be targeting candidates, especially via Social Media such as LinkedIn and Twitter.
In such situations it’s advisable to always vet your chosen agency carefully and in particular check for membership of any/all of the following:
